Foundation Announces Recipient of $2.5 Million Center of Excellence Grant
The Foundation for Physical Therapy Board of Trustees is proud to announce a grant of $2.5 million to Brown University to establish the Center on Health Services Training and Research (CoHSTAR) over the next 5 years. CoHSTAR will train physical therapist scientists in health services research to increase and improve the profession's capacity in this area of research. The Center's work will help make health services research an integral part of today's health care discussion.
CoHSTAR will offer this multi-institutional research and training program in conjunction with Boston University and the University of Pittsburgh. Brown University will provide leadership and administration, while all 3 universities will work together with a 3-part focus on analysis of large data sets, rehabilitation outcomes measurement, and implementation science and quality assurance.
The Center will offer postdoctoral fellowships, host visiting scientists, and provide special summer training sessions. According to Linda Resnik, PT, PhD, associate professor of health services, policy, and practice at Brown University and CoHSTAR principal investigator and director, each trainee will be paired with a highly experienced mentoring team from one or more of the institutions, participate in immersive research experiences, and have access to other training activities and courses from 26 pertinent graduate programs at the 3 institutions. In addition, CoHSTAR will fund several high-quality promising pilot studies each year from investigators within and outside the Center. Brown University anticipates launching CoHSTAR in June.
To learn more about CoHSTAR, visit http://www.foundation4pt.org/explore-our-impact/center-of-excellence. CoHSTAR is now accepting applications for postdoctoral fellowship opportunities. Applicants will be screened on a rolling admissions basis. For more information about postdoctoral fellowship opportunities, contact Audrey_kydd{at}brown.edu, or call 401-863-3631.
