Gross, PT, PhD, FAPTA, was awarded a Doctoral Training Research Grant in 1986. Vicki S. Mercer, PT, PhD, was awarded a Doctoral Training Research Grant in 1993.
“Care Transitions From the Hospital to Home for Patients With Mobility Impairments: Patient and Family Caregiver Experiences,” by Dossa A, Bokhour B, and Hoenig H, was published in Rehabilitation Nursing (2012;37:277–285). Almas Dossa, PT, MSPT, MPH, PhD, was awarded a Mary McMillan Doctoral Scholarship in 2000, a Promotion of Doctoral Studies (PODS) I scholarship in 2001, and a PODS II scholarship in 2004.
“Clinically Important Body Weight Gain Following Knee Arthroplasty: A Five-Year Comparative Cohort Study,” by Riddle DL, Singh JA, Harmsen WS, Schleck CD, and Lewallen DG, was published online in Arthritis Care & Research on November 30, 2012. Daniel L. Riddle, PT, PhD, FAPTA, was awarded a Doctoral Training Research Grant in 1990.
“Dynamic Versus Radiographic Alignment in Relation to Medial Knee Loading in Aymptomatic Osteoarthritis,” by Barrios JA, Royer TD, and Davis IS, was published in the Journal of Applied Biomechanics (2012;28:551–559). Joaquin A. Barrios, PT, DPT, PhD, was awarded PODS I scholarships in 2006 and 2007. Irene S. Davis, PT, PhD, FACSM, FAPTA, was awarded Doctoral Training Research Grants in 1987 and 1993.
“Influence of Relative Hip and Knee Extensor Muscle Strength on Landing Biomechanics,” by Stearns KM, Keim RG, and Powers CM, was published online in Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise on November 27, 2012. Kristen M. Stearns, PT, MSPT, was awarded a PODS I scholarship in 2008 and a PODS II scholarship in 2009.
“Defining Substantial Clinical Benefit for Patient-Rated Outcome Tools for Shoulder Impingement Syndrome,” by Michener LA, Snyder AR, and McClure PW, was published online in Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation on November 16, 2012. Lori A. Michener, PT, PhD, ATC, SCS, was awarded a Doctoral Training Research Grant in 1997. Philip W. McClure, PT, PhD, FAPTA, was awarded Doctoral Training Research Grants in 1993 and 1994 and a Foundation Research Grant in 1999.
“Male and Female Gluteal Muscle Activity and Lower Extremity Kinematics During Running,” by Willson JD, Petrowitz I, Butler RJ, and Kernozek TW, was published in Clinical Biomechanics (2012;27:1052–1057). John D. Willson, PT, MSPT, PhD, was awarded PODS I scholarships in 2004 and 2005 and a PODS II scholarship in 2006.
“T1rho MRI Relaxation in Knee OA Subjects With Varying Sizes of Cartilage Lesions,” by Souza RB, Feeley BT, Zarins ZA, Link TM, Li X, and Majumdar S, was published online in Knee on November 15, 2012. Richard B. Souza, PT, PhD, was awarded a PODS I scholarship in 2004 and PODS II scholarships in 2006 and 2007.
Welcome New Board of Trustees
The Foundation for Physical Therapy welcomes Helene Fearon, PT, FAPTA, of Fearon Physical Therapy and Fearon & Levine, and Ruthann “Randy” Roesch, PT, DPT, MBA, of Dynamic Healthcare Solutions, to the Board of Trustees.
Fearon is a partner at Fearon & Levine, a national consulting firm focusing on practice management and payment policy in the outpatient rehabilitation setting. For the past 27 years, she has been a partner in Fearon Physical Therapy, a private practice in Phoenix, Arizona. She is involved in APTA at both the state and national level, and has served on the Board of Directors of the Private Practice Section. She is active as a member of the Arizona Chapter of APTA and its Payer Relations Committee. Fearon also served as a governor appointee to the State of Arizona's Board of Physical Therapy Licensure from 1999–2007, and served as president of this regulatory board from 2003–2007.
Roesch is the owner of Business Solutions—providing consulting services specializing in practice valuation, exit strategies and partnership design models. During her professional career she has been an active member of APTA. She served on the Florida Chapter Board of Directors, Private Practice Section Board of Directors, and APTA Board of Directors as Secretary and Vice President. She is currently Chair of the PPS Task Force on Clinical Internship. She has been a strong supporter of the Foundation for Physical Therapy in her role as Trustee (1998–2004 and current), major donor, and fund-raiser.
