In June, the Foundation for Physical Therapy announced a funding campaign to establish a Center of Excellence that will expand the number of physical therapist investigators in health services and health policy research. These researchers would assess and identify the most effective physical therapist practice models for optimal patient outcomes, resource utilization, and cost-effectiveness, among other variables. The health services data will help the profession make a strong case for the role of the physical therapist in health care delivery as health care reform is put in place. In this special PTJ podcast, Foundation for Physical Therapy President William Boissonnault, PTJ Editor in Chief Rebecca Craik, and moderator Daniel Riddle discuss the concept of health services research and discuss the potential impact of the Center of Excellence initiative on the profession.
